The key to having a safe & effcient top loading operation at your facility is to have a top loading arm that is designed for your specific loading or unloading operation. Top loading arms come in a variety of sizes/configurations and built to have enough reach without having to move the truck or railcar. Common styles of loading arms include fixed reach, scissor, unspoorted boom, supported boom or bypass. A properly designed loading arm will take into account all variables like vehicle heights/ranges, spotting of the vehicle, total length/reach required. Loading arms come in 2" to 6" sizes in a variety of materials of construction based on the application (aluminum, low temp carbon steel, 316 stainless steel, ductile iron) and can be either spring counterbalanced or powered with pneumatics/hydrualics. Loading arms can be designed for splash loading or tight fill and often overfill protection, vapor recovery (hatch plates) are all incorporated into the loading arm.
